Prom Impossible by Laura Pauling- Review

Author: Laura Pauling
Publisher: Redpoint Press
Publishing Date: May 1st 2014
Blurb Description: 1 girl + 1 prom + 3 guys = Prom Impossible!

Cassidy decides her senior year, including prom, will be about Michael Greenwood, the boy destined to be her soul mate. One problem. He hasn’t figured that out yet.

But certain events meant as innocent pranks—that weren’t completely her fault—introduce her to Zeke, the reformed bad boy. And cutting deals in the boys’ bathroom with Jasper, the hottest guy in school, lands her in a complicated web of half-truths that spirals out of control.

At the end of the year, she’s dateless the day before the big night but risks a lot more than her pride if she can’t find a way to fix her mistakes.

PROM IMPOSSIBLE is a modern-day Shakespearean romantic comedy in the world of teens, true love, and life.

**MY REVIEW**

Prom. You know what this is right? I mean, it’s only what every girl in the English speaking world dreams about- or thinks about (ponders over) at the very least!

Cassidy is one of the obsessive ones. You know, one of Those Girls. With all her dreams about The One (both the guy and… the dress!) and ideas of the perfect prom, her senior year and the summer before is going be the pinnacle of her life.

She has to wait just a bit more for that, thought, with a small prank that involving pyrotechnics blowing out of proportion, she is sent to adventure camp (I never truly got what this was- due to lack of explanation)  which is where she meets the Bad Boy- Zeke. (although- he's not really a bad boy- he just looks like one.)

Desperate to get back soon to the boy of her dreams- Michael Greenwood a Lord of the Rings nerd with Spock’s pointy ears and make him realise that she is indeed his dream girl- summer passes by in a flash and she comes back only to find out that everything she knew has changed- with her friends a little too estranged and her dream boy now besotted with her best friend.
And from there we go. Drama, Drama and of course, Drama with a little cherry on top.

Prom Impossible is a fun book. Nothing out of the ordinary- but funny and ‘I have to see who she ends up with’ in a very intriguing way! Oh, and you can wipe love triangles out of your head- it’s more like a love square (or a web- interlinked with lies, peer pressure and Prom!)

While the ending scene was simply brilliant and had me laughing out loud, there were a lot of scenes that had me sighing in exasperation. When Cassidy got herself further and further into the hole she dug herself, rambles and lies unnecessary. I found it well, kind of ridiculous. And childish. And unnecessary. And it made the book D-R-A-G.

All in all, a book that has the potential to make you laugh and also hit your forehead in exasperation.

My Verdict:

This is for the ones that covet drama! Or prom!
